Lars MikkelsenWhen he was 27, he was enrolled in the National Theatre School of Denmark from which he was graduated in the year 1995. In addition to his performance as the lead actor of The Killing He also appeared in two other critically highly acclaimed Danish drama series: Those Who Kill, and Borgen III. He also played in episodes of the BBC drama Sherlock as Charles Augustus Magnussen (blackmailer). In the American TV show House of Cards, he played the role of President Russia. In the year 2018, he took home an International Emmy Award for his character as the Russian president in the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. This was shown in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019. Mikkelsen is fluent in English, Swedish, German as well as Danish as well as his native language. He also has acquired various accents. He has stated that both he and his brother learned English through listening to Monty Python records and learning the comedy sketches
